| thinking of buying a new pc Should I stick with XP or upgrade to VISTA |

| Re: thinking of buying a new pc Since you gave no information, that is a difficult question to answer definitively. To start with: Specifically what are your computing needs? Is all your existing essential hardware and software compatible with windows Vista? How long will you keep this computer? Etc. If anyone give you a definitive answer with the amount of information you gave, they are answering more on bias and less on facts since you gave no facts. I would get Windows Vista with a new computer, but that is me and my circumstances may not apply to you. As long as Windows Vista will work for you, you may want to consider it if you have no conflicts with existing hardware or software. -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] http://www3.telus.net/dandemar "Capri" <capri142@usa.com> wrote in message news:1f484949-86bb-4b7a-aa60-f831fed07fa7@l32g2000hse.googlegroups.com... > Should I stick with XP or upgrade to VISTA |

The chances of a malware infestation on YOUR machine adversely affecting me (such as a Trojan spewing spam in my direction) is diminished. If you are not compelled by MY wishes, then look to your own needs and wants. One caveat is this: if you're considering a laptop with a Vista OS, it may not be able to be downgraded to XP (due to the absence of drivers). |

The question is which operating system should you get on your new computer. If this were an upgrade, I would have a very different answer; changing from one operating system to another is right for some people, but probably wrong for most. But on a new computer, the answer is very clear in my mind: go with Vista. Although there will always be those who live in the past and think their old operating system is better than the new one (whatever the old and new ones are), to me it makes no sense not to move forward when you buy a new computer. I am personally happy running Vista here. Be aware of two things, though: 1. Vista requires more powerful hardware than XP. Don't skimp in this area. 2. My experience was that all of my applications (except for a couple of minor utilities) ran just fine under Vista. However, if you want to run older versions of some programs, it is possible that you may have to upgrade to a newer version. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP Windows - Shell/User Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

Vista is the future in personal computer software. I even installed it on my 2 year old ASUS P4G8X and have had no problems, zero, nada! I do find the repeated request for "Administrative Priviledges" (UAC) annoying, but if the system is more secure I can live with it. |

| Re: thinking of buying a new pc Regardless of all the replies you read here your best bet is to educate yourself on the Operating Systems and then make your own (intelligent) choice.
