Problem with Desktop Icons

Hi

One of my users is experiencing a problem. But let me start by describing
the case.
She has several shortcuts on her desktop, and these are arranged the way she
finds best. This is shortcuts to files, folders and various icons.
When she initiates a reboot when she's logs on, everything works as
intended. The problem starts when we run a script from one of our IT
workstations that reboot all workstations in our site. The script is
actually a bat file, run as a scheduled task on the IT workstation.
The command we use is: shutdown -r -f -m \\workstation

This works normally on all workstation, except this one, or the reboot goes
as intended but when the user logs on all the desktop icons seems to be auto
arranged in some way. And as I mentioned, this only happens when we run the
remote bat file for remote shutdown.

RE: Problem with Desktop Icons

Hello Andy,

After reviewing the post log, I recommend you try the following steps to
narrow down this issue:

1. Please copy the bat file to the problem computer and run the file
locally. Does this issue occur?

2. Please directly run the command locally to see if this issue recurs.

3. Please log on to another computer and remote onto the problematic
computer, and then run the command line to restart that computer. Does this
issue occur?

Also, let us perform clean boot to isolate the problem. To do clean boot,
please refer to the steps below:

1. Click Start (menu), Point to Run (menu) and then type "MSCONFIG"
(without quotation marks) and then press OK to start the System
Configuration Utility.

Note: To create a clean environment for troubleshooting, you must be logged
on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to
complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network,
network policy settings might also prevent you from completing this
procedure.

2. On the General tab, click Selective startup.

3. On the Services (tab), check "Hide All Microsoft Services" check box,
and then click "Disable All".

4. On the Startup (tab), click "Disable All".

5. Click OK (button) and then restart the machine.

Then, run the bat file locally and remotely to check the results and then
let me know the result.

In the meantime, please help us collect the following information for
further research.
