| Start menu - Program list I used a third party program to "optimize" my computer performance. OK shame, shame, slap my hand :). I ran the registry cleaner. After, I noticed that when I ran Start - Programs, only about 7 items were listed when before there used to be dozens of programs listed. Based on what I've been reading, I suspect it is a registry issue. I tried running "undo" with the optimize program but the complete Start-program list is still missing. I tried system restore at 2 "system checkpoints" and both restores "failed." I tried running in "safe" mode; the full program list still is not present. I tried rebooting a couple of times, still no good. I'm running XP in the classic mode. I switched to the XP view mode and the green arrowhead is missing from the "All Programs" pointer. Not sure if that's significant. I tried several of my regular programs and the PC seems to be functioning fine. Not sure what to look for now to get my full program list back. The "optimize" program has found it's way to the trash. Thanks for your help and Merry Christmas. -- Grampy Peter |

| RE: Start menu - Program list I created a new User account and the "program list" is complete. Thank you. Time will tell if I messed up something else too. Merry Christmas. | Re: Start menu - Program list Thanks for reply Frank. Creating a new user account per the previous reply "fixed" my problem. Implementing your suggestion may be the ultimate fix if some other gremlin shows up. | Re: Start menu - Program list The program I used to do the register "optimizing" saved the deleted register values. Can I use the " registry editor" to put them all back? I don't know if the undo in the program put them back or not. If this is too risky, I can live with setting up a new user account and moving my files over. -- Grampy Peter "Frank Saunders MS-MVP IE,OE/WM" wrote: > "GrampyPeter" <GrampyPeter@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:78B464DB-F66C-493F-A9E1-3DBADD4235A0@microsoft.com... > >I used a third party program to "optimize" my computer performance. | Re: Start menu - Program list Maybe your program can put them back. If they're saved in a *.reg file, right click it and choose Merge and they should be put back.
