Volume icon mysteriously disappeared

I have a user whose volume icon is missing and I thought that I could just
add it back however when I go into Control Panel and then into Sounds and
Audio devices, it is greyed out for her. The speakers are internal and are
working as she can still hear sound from her PC. She is running Windows XP.
I am at a loss, I think we may just need to reload it from the original disk
but I wanted to just check to see if anyone had anything else I could try.

Thanks!

Re: Volume icon mysteriously disappeared

Liela

I am interpreting your Taskbar as the Notification Tray i.e. immediately
to the left of the Clock on most machines.

Right click on Start button and select Properties, Taskbar, Customise.
The top part of the window lists Current Items but if you use the scroll
bar on the right you will find past items. Place the cursor on Volume
and use a smaller scroll bar to change the Behaviour. Click on Apply and
OK. You may need to restart the computer for the change to take effect.
