WDS or Google Desktop Search Engine

Needing a Desktop search engine, that can "infact" search threw,
allot of files, including .jpg .mp3 .doc. .txt .pdf .ogg .flac...etc..etc

Search both internal plus external (USB) drives.

Heard pro's and cons about WDS 3.01 and Google,
so, thought I would ask the MVP's, there opinion on Desktop Search Engines.

TIA
Cheer's

Rich

Okay, I see, that WDS Nor Google Desktop Search Engines,
even made the grade... so it would appear this application,
would be far superior in every way?

Did see that offer a pro version , but I gather the lite (freeware)
would do what most what I need... I'll try it.

Well, I use "Agent Ransack" since early 2003 and it simply does what it's
supposed to do. There is no need for other software of the same category
and therefore, WDS has been disabled on all systems here after testing.

Re: WDS or Google Desktop Search Engine

Agent ransack I seem to recall trying a while back, and finding it good.

Google Desktop has privacy concerns, as it uploads data about you.

WDS slows the computer.

Other one worth looking at is Servant Salamander, which has a good search
tool.

'Open containing folder' is a menu-command i often use on found
files in the working built-in Find File utility under Win98SE's
Windows Explorer, and that i dearly miss in the freeware 'Agent
Ransack' under WinXP. Still, many thanks David Vest and MythicSoft.

Re: WDS or Google Desktop Search Engine

Just downloaded and try it out...
its fast for what it does, but does not index context of files...
inside of a .pdf for example... ( have about 23GB of .pdf files..)
which need to be index.

You did not mention the need to index in your original posting. In that
case you might be better off when using WDS, for instance.

Used GDS, WDS both and also YDS But now shifted to CDS (Copernic
Destop Search)
Its simple, fast and does not take up much system resources. Try it
out.

Why should I waste my time - note that I'm *not* the OP! I do not need any
index and "Agent Ransack" as recommended works fast and reliable.
