| USB hard disk access. I tried the KB without success, so..... I had a corrupted registry, and had to format and re-install XP Pro. Before I formated I was able to save (I thought) a bunch of fairly important "stuff" on a portable (160 GB) USB hard drive, at that time drive "M". After re-installing XP and all my programs from a seperrate hard drive (Norton Ghost), I tried to access the info on the portable USB drive "M". I can't seem get there from here!!! How do I get at the information on the now USB drive "G" ??? Thanks, Ron |

| Re: USB hard disk access. When you try to access the G: drive, do you get a permissions error? Was the "rebuild" of your machine done by pushing a Ghost image to it? Was drive M: formatted as NTFS, or FAT32? Can you take ownership of the drive through the Security properties? -- V2 "RON" wrote: > >How was this "save" done? > I clicked on a folder copied it and sent it and it's contents to drive "M". > or I picked it up and dragged it over to the drive "M". > Then I went and checked on drive "M" and saw that the folder and it's > contents were in fact on drive "M" > > > What do you see on the USB drive? > I can't access the USB drive, seems to lock up. > > Ron > > "smlunatick" wrote: > > > On Nov 28, 1:55 pm, RON <rppare(remove this)@comcast.net> wrote: > > > I tried the KB without success, so..... > > > I had a corrupted registry, and had to format and re-install XP Pro. > > > Before I formated I was able to save (I thought) a bunch of fairly important > > > "stuff" on a portable (160 GB) USB hard drive, at that time drive "M". > > > After re-installing XP and all my programs from a seperrate hard drive > > > (Norton Ghost), I tried to access the info on the portable USB drive "M". > > > I can't seem get there from here!!! | Re: USB hard disk access. HI. I get no eror message at all. The drive comes up in "my computer", if I highlight that drive and try to "explore" the dialog box freezes up and I have to disconnect the drive to get out. I've tried to get at it through "device manager" same thing happens as soon as i hit a tab or two in device manager to try and find info or something to do it freezes up again The "rebuild" was done by formating my "C" drive and re-installing XP pro, then installing Norton Ghost, then having Ghost copy and deposit all of my "stuff" that I had saved in the ghost backucp on my "F" drive back on to the "C" drive that now had only XP on it. Formated as a fat32 I tried "saving" a copy of the USB dick back to "C".--- everything that had anything to do on screen with the "G" USB drive froze up, had to unplug the USB drive and clear off all the dead windows.
