| Cant' burn music CD using iTunes under XP don't know when this problem developed but it's been months since I last burned a CD from iTunes. I'm running XP Pro and I keep getting the message "can't recognize burner or software" (or words to this effect). I have a Sony DRU-710A DVD burner which is listed on Apple's list of compatible devices. I have entered this problem on Apple's web site and have gotten no response. I told them that I will not purchase any more music thru iTunes until this problem is fixed. I am totally up to date on my updates (including one that popped up automatically the day after I submitted the problem to Apple - a coincidence???) I don't know about anyone else out there but my experiences with Apple have been terrible. They make good products but who wants to deal with their attitude? I work with special needs kids who respond very favorably to certain types of music and iTunes has been a big help up till now. I need to be able to burn CDs for this new school year (and yes, I know about the 7 copy limit - I can't even burn one copy). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Terry |

| Re: Cant' burn music CD using iTunes under XP Galen, Would you believe I still have this problem. Every time I try to burn a CD from ITunes I get "CD burner or software not found". I see that there are many people - both MAC and PC users - who are having this problem. I have posted to the Appple technical support web site many times only to learn that Apple does not monitor these posts (I've even gone so far as to recommend that people buy Zunes in my posts). Apple seems to think they can save money by having users staff their on-line technical support. I don't think it works. I haven't gotten a single useful response to any of my posts. So here I sit, still unable to burn CDs from ITunes (whether the music was purchased thru ITunes or not). I read recently that music purchases thru ITunes have been decreasing. Duhh!!! Is anyone surprised. I will certainly not buy music thru ITunes. | Re: Cant' burn music CD using iTunes under XP Spoke to my brother over the weekend and he suggested I uninstall iTunes and reinstall it. Before I uninstalled iTunes I made a back-up copy of all my music on my external HD. Then I uninstalled iTunes (latest version 7). Then I installed version 6 which I has saved on my HD. When I brought version 6 up I could see all my music listed but when I tried to burn a CD I was told that some file (can't recall the name - have it written down) was created by a newer version of iTunes and therefore not playable. I then uninstalled version 6 and installed version 7. And when I tried to burn a CD, guess what happened. "Disc burner or software not found". So I still can't burn CDs using iTunes and probably never will. And I'm sure Apple is losing sleep over this. ritpg wrote: > Galen, > > Would you believe I still have this problem. | Re: Cant' burn music CD using iTunes under XP Hi Terry, I too ran into the problem of Disk burner or software not found. By chance, the following worked for me. 1) After the failure, I couldn't even see my CD drive letter in Windows File Explorer 2) So I rebooted my PC 3) Then, before starting iTunes, I checked that my CD drive was shown in Windows File Explorer this time. 4) Then I inserted a blank disk into my CD drive. 5) In the previous run, I already went in Edit>Preferences>Advance>burning to say that I want to burn Data CD, rather than Audio CD. Somewher I read that this is the thing to do. 6) Until then, I started iTunes, and it recognized that there is a blank CD there. 7) Then the File>Backup to Disk worked for me. Hope this helps you too. spw |
