| Laptop Will Not Remain In Hibernation - DCHP suspected Every night I go to bed after hibernating my laptop. Around 3 hours later it wakes up on its own. I checked the error logs in the management console and discovered that DCHP wants to contact my ISP for a renewed IP address. This laptop is a member of a domain and is also used at home, via a wireless gateway to DSL. Looking at the IP address it is trying to connect to tells me it is my ISP, not my network server. A couple things that I may add to this - the wireless gateway is a 2Wire and does not ever turn off and it does not even have a power button. Three computers use this gateway. One is a desktop that connects via a linksys wireless card and it does not have this problem - i.e. when it is put into hibernation, it stays there. The other computer that is also a desktop is connected via a cable directly, and it also does not have this waking up problem. I downloaded and applied the hotfix for the >2mb ram problem which solved the problem of the not hibernating due to resourses issue but this waking up issue is on-going. Since I have a TON of network (Novell) stuff that loads prior to boot which I cannot control, it takes forever to boot, and thus I prefer to use Hibernate when at all possible. Another event in the log was Windows Installer Service, however, I do not have windows updates enabled. The last item in the event log associated with this problem is W32Time. I am assuming that this last item has to do with the fact that this laptop has all the network stuff. Can anyone help? |

| Re: Laptop Will Not Remain In Hibernation - DCHP suspected You've got a multitude of issues - many interconnected, so the answer(s) may not work together. First, I would extend the DHCP lease time on your wireless router. 2nd I'd disable the Wake on Lan capability of your Network card. As to configuration, you might want to use "Alternate" TCP/IP settings which is designed to accommodate a portable that is used on both a Domain and home network. Using fixed/alternate settings will do away with the need for a DHCP assignment or lease renewal. Disabling the "Wake on LAN (activity )" is either a BIOS setting if the NIC is motherboard based or a configuration option of the NIC if it is an add-on PCI type of adapter.
