My computer is very noisy

Hi
My computer is running very loud, it is the same sound you hear when booting
up or installing new software (as if the pc is performing a complex activity
), but it does not end as it usually would. The only way I can end it without
turning off the pc is by hitting the sleep button.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There should be no sound when you install a software or boot up. Looks like a
hardware is soon going to a permanent sleep.

Re: My computer is very noisy

It sounds like you have fan bearings getting too noisy or more likely --
Hard Drive bearings (This is not good, and I'd recommend that you back up
the system ASAP!)
If you have a CD/DVD drive, it may be spinning and also cause a similar
noise.
Some computers have temperature controlled fan speeds, and accumulated dust
and crud will cause the fans to run faster.

Re: My computer is very noisy

Check your CPU, case and power supply fans. These tend to be noise when
"gummed up" with dust. You can/should replace them if they need to.

Also, you may want to check your hard drive to see if it may be starting fail.
Since when you start up the PC, or install software, then the hard drive is
spinning and if it become noisy, then something may be wrong with it.

If the noise happens only when the CD/DVD drive is spinning a disk, then there
is a vibration hum which the case is amplifying. You may need to check the
CD/DVD drive mounting.

Re: My computer is very noisy

Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. Its not an actual noise, its the
hum that all computers make when they are turned on. The hum increases in
volume when installing a program and then decreases when installation is
complete, except mine does not decrease again.

It really depends on from where the noise is coming. If it is a
grinding, clicking sort of noise then your hard drive is probably about
to die. Back up your data and test it with a diagnostic downloaded from
the hard drive mftr.'s website.

You know your own skills best; if this isn't something you want to do
then take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your
local version of BigStoreUSA).
