Problems shutting down :(

Hi. i've got a Pakardbell Media Centre 2005 editiona and i regularly have
shutting down problems. I've had them for a long time and thought i should do
someting about them. When i click shut down, the computer goes through the
normal process of "Logging off" and then "saving your settings", but when it
goes to "shutting down" , the computer becomes silent (it normally makes
noises when processing) and the screen stays the same. The mouse cursor is
able to move.

Sometimes whne shutting down, i get a dialoge box which is closing a
programme called "CCAPP.EXE", in oder to shut it down i have to click on "End
now"

any ideas what could be causing the problem

RE: Problems shutting down :(

CCAPP.exe is part of Norton Antivirus. You can go into start > run >
msconfig > startup tab and uncheck things one by one and restart after each
one. You may try uninstalling it and see how your shutdown is working. Then
reinstall it and see if the reinstall has fixed the problem. However if you
are still suffering slow shutdowns with it uninstalled before you reinstall
it then it is something else causing your problem. It could be a multiple of
things. I would start with Norton though. Good Luck,

Joe

The ccapp.exe is part of a Norton program.

Go through this shutdown troubleshooter:
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm

Make sure the computer is completely virus/malware-free:

If the machine is completely virus/malware-free, often installing the MS
User Profile Hive Cleanup Service helps - http://tinyurl.com/42kj6
