export outlook express emails

The situation is as follows;
I would like to move contents from one PC(old) to another PC(new).
The old pc uses outlook express and the new PC uses MS Outlook 2003.
The old pc has 3 different outlook express identities. Each identity has
email categorized into folders within the inbox. I would like to move all 3
of these identities along with there emails/address books to the new PC. I
would also like to preserve the custom made folders within each identities
inbox.
Outlook express does not include the option to export into a .pst file, for
easy import/export to another machine. Instead I see dbx files which cannot
be imported into outlook 2003.
How would I go about doing this?

Best to ask the experts in an OE newsgroup, cross-posted to
an Outlook newsgroup.

Re: export outlook express emails

OE is supported in the interntexplorer groups
This link may help
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/

NB you have to connect your old OE data to OE on your new PC, before you can
then *Export* msgs to Outlook, and within outlook *import* addresses
Note also OL doesnt use identities, but Profiles which can only be switched
by closing OL & reopening in the 'other' Profile

PS if you are happy with OE then your new PC allready has either OE or
Windows Mail (If Vista) on it, as part of the o/s

I use ABF Outlook Express Backup. Install on both computers.
Works like a charm.
Backup computer 1 OE, put on computer 2 OE via thumb drive or cdr or
equiv, have Outlook import if y'all wish to use Outlook rather than
Outlook Express.
Then use the ABF to backup OE and put on thumbdrive on a regular basis
just in case.

Re: export outlook express emails

Crosspost to OE General.

The only way you could export the OE data to OL would be if both
applications were running on PC(new). IOW, you cannot import OE data from
PC(old) into OL running in PC(new).

Assuming PC(new) is NOT running Vista:

1. Back-up each OE identity on PC(old).
2. Create three (3) new OE identities on PC(new).
3. Import one (1) back-up set into one (1) of the new identities.
4. Open Identity1 and export to MS Outlook.
5. Repeat #4 for Identity2.
6. Repeat #4 for Identity3.

In summary:

OE/PC(old) > OL/PC(new) => No.

OE/PC(old) > OE/PC(new) > OL/PC(new) => Yes.

PS: Exporting /from/ OE to OL yields better results than importing /into/ OL
from OE. (Think about it.)
