Stranger than Michael Jackson's Thriller.

I have a wierd problem. Until recently I was using a Diamond SupraMax 56I
modem on my Asus Pentium Dual Core motherboard. It has 2GB of RAM and a
250GB Hard Drive. All ran well until I was notified that I would have to
replace my dial up modem to run Windows Vista. In my neck of the woods
broadband is cost prohibitive so I rushed out and bought a NexxTech modem.
My mistake.

The moment the modem logged onto the internet, the computer shut off and
rebooted. I tried a couple of more times without any success. I finally
gave up and returned the modem. Then I bought one from BestData. Another
big mistake.

As before the modem signed into the internet and rebooted my computer. Once
again I returned the modem and bought a U. S. Robotics modem. Things
improved somewhat.

I was able to get on the net without a hitch, but videos and CallWave became
an issue. Every time someone calls me while I'm on the net, CallWave is
activated. When the message starts to download, the computer reboots. The
computer also reboots whenever I try to play a song or a movie using my Real
Player while I'm online.

Real Player 11 works just fine when I'm not online, but when I am, the
computer reboots.

I constantly get driver errors and stack overflows. So have I tried to fix
the problem? Yes.

I downloaded the latest version of FlashGet.
I redownloaded Real Player 11.
I redownloaded CallWave.
I downloaded the latest version of DVD Region Free.
I downloaded the latest version of Yahoo Messenger.
I updated Webroot SpySweeper.
I redownloaded Internet Explorer 7
I updated SoundBlaster Audigy.
I updated my NVidia drivers.
I went into BIOS and stopped a sound card conflict.
I checked my modem to see if there were any conflicts (there were none).
I currently have Nero 7.
I have Adobe Reader 8.
I have Office 2007 Professional Edition.
I have a 600 Watt Power Supply.

Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

Re: Stranger than Michael Jackson's Thriller.

sounds like you have some other issue than modem.
the computer should not reboot like that.
go into System Properties, Advanced , Startup and Recovery and uncheck the box for Auto Restart on error. you should then get some info on screen about the error before the reboot.

RE: Stranger than Michael Jackson's Thriller.

also FYI, this is not the Vista group, this is XP, you may get better answers
in the Vista Group, under hardware
