| running 16 bit apps Is there a way to allow members of the groups "Users" and "Power Users" access to 16 bit apps (instead of using "Run As") by the way of a GPO ? I have a game my 4 yr old son likes to play and it runs fine under an account with Administrator privaleges but when I change the account to a User or Power User I get an error that it can't run a 16 bit app and it points to his temp directory in his local settings directory. |

I do not get this error when account is setup as an administrator on when account is setup as a Power User or User. |

You could also create your own temp directory, e.g. C:\temp, give "everyone" full access to it and instruct Windows to use it (Control Panel / System / Advanced / Environmental Variables). |

Right-click on the shortcut, Properties, Compatibility tab. Or use Start -> Help and Support and search on "compatibility". |

If after, did trying that work or not? Some programs will not run under a non-admin account. That is how they were coded. You will need to discuss the problem with whomever wrote this unidentified game or maybe find a forum of users of that unidentified game. Since you are playing a 16-bit game, which maybe thinks it should be ran under DOS, you can't make it work unless it has a configuration option to change its default behavior. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893677/en-us |
