Whenever I try to download or install new programs such as itunes and windows
live messenger they begin installation but half way through or at some point
before installation is complete downloading stops,the installation box
remains and the picture of files transferring remains however installation
process has stop?can someone help me please?thanks!

Do NOT 'Run the download from it's present location', instead, download
and save whatever is being downloaded. Then install the download with
the browser and any other programs closed.
A misconfigured firewall or interference from the installed
antivirus/security software *may* be the culprit.

If you're using IE7, Microsoft has finally fixed the "stalled
download" problem:
