Windows XP started hanging up at the "saving settings" screen on s

Toshiba Tecra Core duo about 18 months old, original factory windows
installation.
2 days ago on shut down it started hanging up on the "savings settings"
screen. It goes through the shut down sequence, then starts the hard drive
looking for something, and continues til I hold the power button down.
No hardware or software changes took place that day
Any suggestions?

Sometimes a corrupt profile is the culprit. Log in and add a new user for
yourself. Then log out and into that profile. Log back out and see what
happens. If the issue is gone it is probably a corrupt profile issue. Move
your stuff to the new profile. Don't waste time trying to resolve a corrupt
profile issue. It's a good idea to create yourself a new profile yearly
anyway.

RE: Windows XP started hanging up at the "saving settings" screen

Since the server hung up on me I ended up with two threads, but I'm curious
about your new profile suggestion. Every new profile I've ever set up
required me to reset all my customizations of Office, macros, toolbars, etc.
Also requires a re-memorizing the autocorrect entries, of which I have at
least a hundred to get Word to put accents on words that need them.

Is there a way around all this work?
