I know I can create a shortcut on the desktop, but I would like the
original icon back that doesn't have the little arrow. How can I do
this?

Control Panel > Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Desktop icons > IE
(check)

For shortcuts without the arrows use a Reg fix. Visit Kelly's Korner
