Screen Resolution Reset at Shutdown/Restart

I have a new laptop running WinXP SP2 that keeps resetting the display
resolution to 640X480 at restart. I keep setting the resolution back to
1280x1024 each time I start up. I've installed 2 programs since receiving the
computer: MS Office 2007 and AVG Anti-virus.

Any thoughts on what may be causing this behavior, and how to permanently
set the preferred resolution would be much appreciated.

Tried updating your display drivers from Laptop site, NOT winupdate?

Re: Screen Resolution Reset at Shutdown/Restart

I haven't. Will give that a go. Interesting you mention winupdate, I've been
suspecting that as the potential cause. Will likely change setting from
Automatic to Notify.

Re: Screen Resolution Reset at Shutdown/Restart

You should be able to select Critical only; Do NOT use winupdate for
drivers, unless the driver is for a MS device/hw

Re: Screen Resolution Reset at Shutdown/Restart

So I went to the manufacturer's website and updated the drivers. This did not
fix the problem. I also changed the settings for the WinUpdates, but I did
not expect that to have any effect on the issue.

After a little testing I found that the resolution is only being reset when
the laptop is in the docking station. When not in the docking station,
everything works just fine. Additionally, as you might expect because the
screen sizes/aspects are different for the external monitor vs the laptop
display, the resolution settings available while docked are different from
the resolution settings available while undocked. I have set the resolution
to 1280x1024 while docked, and 1280X800 while undocked. So any thoughts on
why the docking station would be causing the resolution to reset to 640X480
at restart?
