Folder Options>File Types> options ALL greyed out

I've only just noticed this, not sure what's caused it. All the options -
'New', 'Delete', 'Change', 'Advanced' - are ALL greyed out for EVERY file
type.

Any ideas? I'm assuming there's a registry key that has been
deleted/modified somehow. BTW: I am the administrator of this pc with full
access.

Cheers,
Tim

See if this helps:

Click Start> Run, type or copy and paste this line:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

|Click OK|

Click OK to the confirmation message, and reboot.

Also, check your system for malware:

Re: Folder Options>File Types> options ALL greyed out

I tried your "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" thing - but the options are still all
greyed out. I've scanned with Hijackthis, Adaware SE...my system is clean of
any recognisable malware/spyware. It's like permissions have suddenly been
revoked by something, for whatever reason. But because I've only just
discovered it, I can't tell how long it's been like this, or whether it
predates my recent reinstall of XP.

This is gonna bug me all day now :/ I remember having this issue before, and
I never found a solution other than to reinstall XP! *grumbles*

Thanks,
Tim

Re: Folder Options>File Types> options ALL greyed out

I've fixed it.

I'm not sure if this is why it worked, but I added a "NoFileAssociate" value
at these two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explore
r
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\policies\Explor
er

I also changed a setting in Winamp, not sure if it made any difference. In
any case, that alone, or in combination with those two registry values plus
your solution, did the trick.

Re: Folder Options>File Types> options ALL greyed out

Ah, it was most likely NoFileAssociate that fixed it, if you added the entry and set
it to 0.

Thanks, I've not seen that one before.....but I've not seen a lot of things. ;-)
Good work!
