Task Manager Processes

My 4+ year-old computer has begin to run slowly. For example, when opening
Outlook or Word or other programs, previoulsy, they loaded relatively
quickly. Now it takes much longer for them to be functioning. Another
example, when clicking on the Outlook in-basket folder the display of
messages in it takes a while to show. Same thing happens if I then click on
another folder. I'm not talking about days, only minutes (5?).

I looked inside Task Manager and saw that there are approximately 50 or so
processes listed, either running or idle. For the life of me, I have no
idea what these processes are. They are only identified by their cryptic
file names.

I run a strong suite of security programs, virus, ad blocker, etc. and have
been for a very long time.

Programs installed have been stable.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me?

Thanks,
Pat

Since I don't know what your "strong suite of security programs" is or
how you scan, please review these general malware removal steps:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware

If you don't follow those general procedures, it would be wise to go
through the steps.

What about maintaining the system? Do you routinely clean up your
Temporary and Temporary Internet Files, etc.? See:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...ml#Maintenance

What about hard drive space? Still have plenty of room?

You might find these to be helpful:

You can search the internet for the processes that you don't see in
those lists.
