| Reinstallation Questions I am in the process of rebuilding two Dell PCs with XP. The restore disks are SP1, and updating takes forever. Machine number one is complete. Machine number two is identical in every detail. Is there any reason that I should not image the drive on machine one and restore it to machine two (realizing that I have to then change the machine name on machine two?) Both machines are fully licensed. |

Yes, there is a good reason: You can have only one machine with a specific product code (assuming that you have a Retail Licence), not two. |

What's wrong with doing what the OP proposes followed by changing the one Product Key to the correct one? |

| Re: Reinstallation Questions Do you have an SP2 update CD? There were issued for free in 2004. If not perhaps a friend has one. They can be used on any machine. -- Hope this helps.
