card readers

i am having problems downloading photos off my card readers - both for my
CFII card and SD card. try to open drive contents from my computer and it
takes forever for the pictures to appear. sometimes drops out while waiting
for thumbnails to appear, then computer no longer recognizes card reader
exists and you have to unplug card reader and plug it in again. you can not
try copying photos before thumbnails have all opened without getting a
message about parameters not being correct. at the moment the only way i can
copy photos from CFII card to hard drive is by using epson file manager.
tonight i tried to download photos from SD card using SD card reader and
after opening my computer drive F (card reader) would drop out and would have
to unplug/replug card reader again before it would be recognized only to have
it drop straight back out again. could not download photos from SD card via
epson file manager as it said no files. had to resort to using cable from
camera and download via photoshop...one file at a time. Someone please
help as this is getting beyond a joke!!!!!!!

Ask a friend for a loan of his card reader, then try again.

Re: card readers

You may have a marginal imcompatibility. My own card reader works
perfectly well on all PCs other than my laptop. Here it works fine on one
USB port but is not recognised on the other. All other USB devices
work perfectly well on both USB ports. Go figure . . .

Re: card readers

my card readers all worked perfectly well till about the time my sound
drivers went awol. i have a 1.0gb sandisk ultraII CF card and take my pics
mostly in raw. i use a sandisk CF card reader and it would bring up 100
thumbnails and transfer them onto the computer in no time flat. when it
started playing up i bought another card reader of a different brand and it
had the same problem. took card and card reader to camera shop and they used
my card reader all day with no problem as well as downloading and uploading
off my card with no problem. my mothers camera uses SD cards and i have a SD
card reader for hers. first time i tried to upload photos for her since
problem with other card started and i got the same problem.

Hopefully Pegasus won't mind my putting my oar in. Since the problem
occurred at the same time you had an issue with your sound, this may be
a case of a failing motherboard and not a software issue at all. I don't
see anything in this thread about your actual computer but if it is a
fairly new one still under warranty, call the mftr.'s tech support.
Otherwise, unless you have pretty high-level computer skills you should
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop for testing.
This will not be your local version of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad.

Re: card readers

thanks malke...sorry it's taken me so long to respond...been out of town
working. computer is fairly new but will take it and get it looked at. i
had been wondering if it had anything to do with a conflict with a windows
update as all problems seemed to occur arround the time of an automatic
windows update
