The OLPC is failing miserably. Linux has had 10 or more years to beat Microsoft on the desktop and still it languishes at around 2 percent. Walmart's Linux PC has been a miserable failure and now there is only one model left on the website, down from several. So now you Linux kooks have got another scheme up your sleeve? Face it, I'd bet you could stand on the corner of Hollywood and Vine and you couldn't give these things away. Linux has failed. |

OLPC is not failing but it is irrelevent to the Linux on the desktop story too. It is an appliance not a general purpose computer.. if they make it a general purpose computer it will fail as they will not stay in the hands of the kids as adults steal them to use for other things. The places these machines are intended for are corrupt so the OLPC has to be good for the kids only. I hope anyone contemplating putting full blown Linux on one works that out before they destroy what could be a good thing. > Linux has had 10 or more years to beat Microsoft on the desktop and > still it languishes at around 2 percent. > > Walmart's Linux PC has been a miserable failure and now there is only > one model left on the website, down from several. > > So now you Linux kooks have got another scheme up your sleeve? > > Face it, I'd bet you could stand on the corner of Hollywood and Vine > and you couldn't give these things away. > > Linux has failed. Linux can't fail.. it can only not succeed as well as some hope. Some people regard Linux as a tool to bash M$, with nothing more. If they get rid of M$ they will probably carry on using a Mac. > > |
