viewing all the computers on the same network as you?

i want to figure out what other ip addresses are being assigned by my
router... is there a way i might go about doing this?

windows vista's network places, as i recall, does this, although i
suspect it uses some smb specific features that wouldn't work on
computers that don't support smb. if that means i can only get a list
of computers on my network that have smb installed, that's ok, too.

any ideas? i'd prefer a command line solution, although gui ones
work, as well...

Why not look at the router settings/configuration? Each make is different in
detail, but will have a page that shows all connected computers and the ip
addresses assigned to them.
