| Desktop Search indexing (1a) I did a clean install of Windows Desktop Search. (1b) I also added plugins from Citeknet for RAR,EXE,HLP,ZIP,etc. (2) In Options I set WDS to Prioritize Indexing. (3) I selected approx 50 to 50 GB of folders to use. (4) I brought up the Indexing Status window. (5) I pressed Index Now and then left it overnight to build its index. In the morning I did nothing (not even a mouse click) but looked at the open Status Windows and saw WDS had no "Items Left To Scan" and it has a value of 117,000 in "Indexed So Far". I did one mouse click and that was to press the Index Now button. WDS found about 7,000 items to scan. Although by the end only 200 extra items were added to the indexed So Far total. ---------- QUESTION: WHy did WDS find as many as 7000 files to look at? I can believe a few system hundred files got "touched" as part of the indexing process. Possibly even as many as 1,000. But 7,000 files? And most of those I saw flash by were not in system folders. What is happening? |
