| Shutting off Norton Antivirus / installing Windows updates My PC has been running unpredictably the last few weeks, and I have been unable install Windows updates, among other things. In troubleshooting this problem I suspect that Norton Antivirus might be the cause. However, I can't figure out how to shut it off to test it. When I try to kill the processes in task manager, nothing happens. I can't seem to make it go away. Any suggestions? |

| RE: Shutting off Norton Antivirus / installing Windows updates If you have an ICON in the task bar ... right click it, it will give you the option to disable it. Or, open the program and go to OPTIONS / AUTO PROTECT and de-select autoprotection. | RE: Shutting off Norton Antivirus / installing Windows updates I also have norton and i had to go in to home and manually turn off each feature. i also had to allow my internet provider access because it would shut me down for 30 minutes everytime i tried to connect to the internet "Ken W" wrote: > My PC has been running unpredictably the last few weeks, and I have been > unable install Windows updates, among other things. I run ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, and about mid-August, after a bunch of Windows and Office security updates, Windows Updates didn't work on my computer. The Sliding Green Squares applet would run for about an hour, "Checking for Updates", and then it would quit with an error message. Recently, the applet wouldn't run at all - I couldn't even get the web page to come up. Eventually, I went to IE's Internet Options/Security tab and put "*.microsoft.com" on the list of Trusted Sites. Then I enabled Trusted Sites for anything having to do with ActiveX and scripting, and I disabled Pop Up Blocker. Now Windows Update runs the applet for 12 to 16 minutes and then gives me a menu of updates. And I don't have to turn off ZoneAlarm. *TimDaniels* |
