running SFC from the command line (no GUI)

In Vista, it's possible to go: start, search, "cmd", right click to
run with Administrator priveledges, then enter "sfc /scannow" for the
Windows File Protection (WFP) utility. This is awesome, implying that
it's possible to boot to safe mode with command prompt, in Vista, and
run the SFC.

Can the same be done from XP? I know that the registry can be
modified so that the SFC looks for the dll's in the recovery
partition.

thanks,

Thufir

Thank you, Mark. Also, <http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html>
describes how to redirect WFP. If there's a recovery partition on the
D drive, or some sort of sony backup on C drive, would that be
useful? The DLL cache is corrupt, so I'm not seeing the point of
redirecting sfc.
