Keyboard stroke ctrl+space

Hello,

I have to found out, that the keyboard stroke <CTRL>+<SPACE>, used in
Windows Explorer for selecting, in Excel vor marking an whole column
and in Word for applying the normal font style for example, doesn't
work anymore. This "feature" is system wide. I can't see any connection
with installed software or hardware.
What could be the error?

Thanks in advance.
