yes it does.....XP will only search the floppy drive during the
installation.

..go buy one or slipstream the SATA drivers into your XP CD

Are you sure that modern 'SATA' only motherboards require SATA drivers to be
loaded from a floppy? It was my understanding that the SATA drivers are
encoded in the chipset drivers.

I acknowledge you did put 'on the safe side' in your response but I doubt if
SATA drivers have to be loaded discretely for new boards that is.

Sounds like you're talking about two different issues: setting the
first drive and having to load device drivers.

The motherboard BIOS arranges the disk drives in some default order,
but provides the ability to rearrange the drive order via BIOS setup.

You only have to load the SIL drivers during Windows setup if the SATA
disk is connected to a SIL SATA interface. If the drive is connected
to the chipset SATA interface, you most likely will not have to load
any driver during setup.
