Floppy drive

"My computer" does not recognize my floppy drive and very frequently the
following message comes up " no disk in Drive-retry -- continue -- cancel".
And if I insert a floppy into the drive it does not work. However, if I
create a shortcut on my desktop to the floppy drive, then I can get it to
work when I insert a floppy disc. So, obviously, the problem is not in the
drive itself or in its connections, but rather in that Windows XP doesn't
recognize it for some reason. Any suggestions?

Re: Floppy drive

That is a rather odd type of bug. Never heard of it before. But as long as
the shortcut works you're ok until finding a
proper ans.

I've always had problems with floppies under XP (all my installations
of XP).

As mention'd whatever works, I find working on floppies thru the CMD
faster and less prone to problems

Enter your setup (pre-boot) to CMOS and adjust the floppy's settings to
DISABLE three-mode support. Use just the 1.44 setting. That *generally* does
the trick.
