Netframework 3 and subsequent High Priority Update KB934238

OS--XP-PRO-SP2
Q6600 processor

Without going into much detail I returned the above computer because of a
problem that I believe regarded an "automatic" update that caused many
problems after I updated the netframework to 3.0. This new computer was 2
days old. My computer became so slow I could not access a web-page from
another web-page. Tech support at Dell could not seem to find the fix
without causing other problems. After my computer was reformatted and Dell
installed XP-Pro again I still had problems. Example: bootstrap.exe error
trying to download IM. Also, Dell did not think I needed Netframework 2 and
I could not install OneCare without it. At this point, I requested and
received a replacement.

When I began having problems with this first computer the only indicator
that I could find that was new was "Windows Installed wdf01005" which was
deposited in my system restore feature. This could not be uninstalled nor
would a restore from the restore screen work. A soft boot and attempt to
restore to a restore point prior to this item did not work. I believe I am
in the same situation with the replacement and need some guidance.

OS-XP Pro Media SP2
Q6600

First, I understand that Media Edition 2005 is the same as XP-PRO-SP2 except
it cannot become part of a domain. Is that correct?

I am attempting to install OmniPage 16 and was required to update to
Netframework 3 which I did. I then immediately went back to MS update to see
what was there for updates and low and behold there were 2 high-priority
updates waiting. KB934238 and KB925720.

I believe KB934238 is the culprit. Just after installing Netframework 3 on
my XP-Media version I went directly back to MS update again and there were
two "high priority" updates. One was KB934238 relative to MS-XPS.doc writer
and IT CANNOT BE UNINSTALLED. I previously received this update because I
always have auto-update turned on. In this instance, I immediately disabled
auto update and will go to MS update page. Are updates done only on
Wednesday?

How do I proceed? Does OmniPage require KB934238 that MS offers?
Furthermore there is a subsequent optional update for XPS doc writer which
appeared 'after' the update to Netframework 3. My assumption is that I will
not be able to utilize the XPS doc writer (which I understand is MS's version
of PDF). I know OmniPage embeds into Word for conversion purposes.

Why would this download cause me so many problems? Would MS download
(automatically) such a download? Anyone have any information, ideas, or
guidance without chasing my tail between third party stuff?

Someone named Bert addressed questions I posted regarding the first
computer.

Thank you for any insight.
