| Mouse pointer jumps around the screen I've got a Microsoft "Basic Optical Mouse 1.0A", whose pointer keeps jumping around the screen. I've tried unchecking options like "improving precision", "hide pointer", "automatically move pointer to standard button", but it keeps doing it. It's terribly annoying, especially because one older application crashes when I type while the mouse pointer is outside its window. What can be the problem, and how do I fix it? Cheers, Rouke |

Hi Sometimes this can be caused by the surface on which the mouse is moved. I have one particular folding table with a slightly rough plastic surface that makes all optical mice jumpy. A mouse pad or piece of paper taped to the table fixes the problem. -Paul Randall |

| RE: Mouse pointer jumps around the screen Have you tried reinstalling mouse drivers? Or another mouse? | Re: Mouse pointer jumps around the screen Thanks Paul, I tried the old trusted mouse pad just now, but it didn't help. It must be a dodgy mouse. | Re: Mouse pointer jumps around the screen You don't happen to have a piece of glitter in the little mouse "eye" do you?
