HELP! - XP (sp2) causes LOUD beep.

I was just assigned a new laptop from the office, a Dell Latitude
D620. Everything works fine on it except when I put this thing into
stand by, it beeps. It's a not soft beep, but a super loud and long
nasty beep. Sounds like a system beep, but much louder.

Other then the BEEP, standby and everything else seems to work fine.
I've checked with my our help desk and they say it's normal with these
new Dell D620's. I can't believe that.

Someone, please help me turn this beep off....

Thanks!

Maybe somebody in this group can help you, but it sounds to me like your
best bet would be to call Dell Support.

RE: HELP! - XP (sp2) causes LOUD beep.

Using category view, control panel > sounds, speech, and audio devices >
sounds and audio devices. Then click Sounds tab from the top. Under the
Program events, find and clck the event you want to disable and select None
from the Sounds drop-down list.

Ok.. Here's an update to my problem... Now the people in the office
with the older D600 are having the same problem. And the problem
started with some new encryption program being installed.

Now when anyone's PC goes into stand by, there's a loud BEEP and it's
a system board beep.

Looks like we'll need to get someone from the company to either get a
resolution from whoever is suppling the new encryption software or go
with a difference vendor...

Sheesh.. If I could only disable the system board beeps.

Not sure if this will work or not:. Device Manager > Click View > "Show
Hidden Devices" > Non-Plug and Play Drivers > Beep > Right click > Disable.

Re: HELP! - XP (sp2) causes LOUD beep.

This might also help:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Sound
set Beep to "No"
