| Re: utilities most often used? Candice, Stay with the same thread you started 38 mins earlier Double posting isn't going to get you a reply quicker. In fact a few people in this newsgroup will start throwing their toys around If you start school in the morning then why have you left it so late? -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "Candice" <Candice@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:DA27F5A6-FA6E-48A9-AE8A-CF3AF254B67C@microsoft.com... > What are the most popular utilities used? |

I didn't mean to upset or aggrevate anyone, all of these posts are just different questions that I have to anwser. I figured that this would be a great place to get started. | Re: utilities most often used? Candice wrote: > What are the most popular utilities used? That varies with every user, Candice. Within XP (I haven't used Vista), you could probably make a fairly safe bet that defrag is one of the most commonly used utilities (or should be, at least). Disk Cleanup is also frequently used by most people. Scheduler is widely used, also. But every person develops their own style of using the computer, as it were. Some people do not want to be bothered with any utility, others actually get hooked on utility programs. Some of the best are third-party utilities, both freeware and purchased. A Google search of "Computer utilities" will get countless hits. | Re: utilities most often used? Candice, There are the 'resource kits' too that come with many utilities used by computer professionals but not really the home user If you are talking about an organisation then maybe IEAK too Also common for the IT Professional are things like Technet Script Centre which has utilities like Scriptomatic to create scripts Technically, utilities in the Control Panel are called APPLETS so that rules out ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, SYSTEM (Device Manager)... So, please don't add them in your school project -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "Newbie Coder" <newbiecoder@spammeplease.com> wrote in message news:uQdZGKc7HHA.4660@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Candice, > > Disk Management as XP fails to assign the correct drive letter to a flash > drive... > > Disk Defragmenter > > Registry Editor > > Windows Firewall - disable to install a proper one > > If XP Pro then Policies > > Autorun Fix Utility: > http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en > > All are very common things to ask in this newsgroup > > -- > Newbie Coder > (It's just a name) > > > > > > "Newbie Coder" <newbiecoder@spammeplease.com> wrote in message > news:ua9BKFc7HHA.4880@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > > Candice, > > > > MSCONFIG is another > > > > -- > > Newbie Coder > > (It's just a name) > > > > > > > > "Tony Meloche" <bombarde@i2k.com> wrote in message > > news:1188778156_10729@sp6iad.superfeed.net... > > > Candice wrote: > > > > What are the most popular utilities used? > > > > > > > > > That varies with every user, Candice. A homework assignment that asks for survey information is perfectly reasonable and can be educational. It not only acquaints the student with a topic, its pragmatics, and other peoples opinions; it also acquaints the student with the way strangers might react - not always kindly or rationally. In this case if you believe asking is inappropriate, you might want to talk the teacher who made the assignment. I see no reason to complain. In fact, if a student found this forum to ask the question I would think that shows good work. -- Jeff Barnett |
