| Merging "Data" folders into "Favorites"? I've always kept my data separate in a "Data" folder on D:. Right now, within "Data" I've got my Windows "Favorites" folder - the one that renders with a five-pointed star. It's finally dawned on me that, to me, "Favorites" are really "Data" - and all the subdirectories in "Favorites" really belong in "Data". E.g. Right now in "Data", I've got a directory called "Generators" that contains a couple of .PDFs about home-use generators. But I've also got a "Data\Favorites\Generators" folder that contains links to various web pages concerning home-use generators. Clearly (to me, at least) the two folders sb one. My instinct is to simply make "Favorites" my data directory, move all the former "Data" folders into it - combining the contents of like-named folders - and then move "Favorites" up the root of D: and delete the now-empty "Data" directory.... and, from now on, regard "Favorites" as the place where I keep all my "data". Sounds simple to me, but I've got this little yellow sticky on my terminal at work that says: ---------------------------------- "The important things are simple. The simple things are hard. The easy path is mined." ---------------------------------- So: any gotchas laying (lying?) in wait for me if/when I do the aforementioned? -- PeteCresswell |

So you keep only applications on C: and any/all the data on D: ? Or is D:'s copy the backup only ( and you have live stuff on C:) ? The folder in D:\data - Windows "Favorites" folder ( the one that renders with a five-pointed star ) is it a COPY of your everyday Favorites ? Rhetorically he asked - WHY would you want to mess with it ? The registry uses "Favorites" to refer the Favorites folder. It's not "just a name". It's a "special name". It should only contain URL Links. You can add up to 200 links to the Favorites folder - don't put data in it or subfolders. ( for specifics post to the IE newsgroup) |

| Re: Merging "Data" folders into "Favorites"? Works for me. You could, however, make your own toolbar via right click on the Taskbar > New Toolbar out of any folder in "My Documents" or elsewhere which would act much the same. HTH, ern.
