| Win XP-Home C:\ folders and files shared/visable by all users? Relates to Win XP-Homed edition, SP2. No "File or Priner Sharing" on/or Network access. No privacy from other 5 Users adding or reading files that show in what appears to be (Too) common folders and files. An example wold be: All 5 Users have a C:\Temp file. One of the 5 Users adds a *.jpg to his login C:\Temp folder, and all 5 Users will be able to login to each of their individual accounts and view the original *.jpg saved by one User. Why have individual login accounts if there is no privacy or security of individual date from being shared/viewed/added to by the other 4 Users?? I can not see any sharing priviledges to disable/reconfigure in XP-Home. Any Help towards a solution? Thank you, Art |

XP Home was not designed to do what you want. Either upgrade to Pro or use third-party encryption software such as TrueCrypt. How, when a user deliberately saves a file into a common, shared area of the hard drive, such as C:\Temp, then he's explicitly sharing the file. If he doesn't want other users seeing his data, he needs to save the files in the proper location(s) within his user profile. > Why have individual login accounts if there is no privacy or security of > individual date from being shared/viewed/added to by the other 4 Users?? > The problem isn't with WinXP Home's security model; the problem is untrained users. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. -Bertrand Russell |
