Click Shut Down, Long Delay

I have a user that when she clicks shut down at the end of the day, it takes
several minutes before her choices of shut down appear (i.e. logoff, restart,
standby, shut down) and this also locks up the system till this menu appears.
When it does appear and she selects shut down the system takes a very long
time to actually shut off. Any suggestions as to what might cause something
like this?

Re: Click Shut Down, Long Delay

Brandon,

Does it also take a long time for her to logon too?

Local or Roaming profile?

What applications are open?

Please post back more info

No, it does not take her any longer then normal to login, local profile, when
she goes to shut down she already has all applications closed. She is one of
the accounting gurus so she closes and saves everything before she shuts down.

Re: Click Shut Down, Long Delay

That would have been what I would have done first but this is a brand new PC,
in fact the first brand new PC we gave her was having the same problems so we
gave her a different brand new PC and this one's experiencing the same
issues. This also only happens while she is using her docking station. When
she is at home and just using it on her wireless network or as a stand alone
PC these problems go away. Should have mentioned that before this, sorry.

Re: Click Shut Down, Long Delay

Is there a means to shut down the docking station first?

Re: Click Shut Down, Long Delay

Nass,

The user hive pofile tool is to clean up redundant profiles to speed up logon &
not saving setting on shutdown

File monitor isn't any good either. There is such a control called the
FolderSystemWatcher which would tell you the read/writes/changes to the given
directory

Luckily, its not really locked, just waiting to close down a background
app. and/or driver.
