Are you asking for help, or merely keeping us abreast of your
situation?

If the former, you might think about providing more info.

With what little info you provided, I doubt that anyone will be able
to help you.

Windows Update should have given you an error code.

Re: Unable to install Windows Media Player 11

If you understand your limitations then maybe you should leave this one alone
and let someone with competence respond.

You obviously do NOT qualify. You don't even know how to ask a
question for help.

Re: Unable to install Windows Media Player 11

Well caver1, I ran the update again and the process went through without any
errors. It returned with the regular prompt that 'Installation Complete.
You may Restart our computer for updates to take effect'. But when I retart
and then run windows update again, the 'Media Player 11' is still listed
amongst the updates.

abnewallo

grumpy was indicating you need to provide more than "it didn't install" ...
for example, the package was downloaded and then failed with error "X" etc.

You will find posting with adequate information will go alot further than
the thread your having w/ UG

Re: Unable to install Windows Media Player 11

Paul Russell,

There are no error messages or any prompt that indicates anything being
wrong. The update downloads and installs seemingly okay from the windows
update site but when you restart per their request and you go back to windows
update the Media Player is still listed amongst the items to me downloaded.

In Windows update look at your update history and see if there is
anything there. That is where you will find the error code.

If WMP 11 won't install...count your blessings. It is a POS and
an abomination IMHO.

Re: Unable to install Windows Media Player 11

caver1,

Thanks for the assitance. I found something on-line about re-naming the
'spupdsvc.exe' file between updates and this has worked. I have since
updated the Windoiws media 11 and Internet Explorer 7, and all seems to be
well now. Do you know if the 'spupdsvc.exe' file is linked to some other
menace?

Re: Unable to install Windows Media Player 11

ok so when you try to launch it nothing happens then?

How about your uninstall it from the add/remove programs ... reboot ...try
to downlaod it again ... maybe a partial failure.
