| Computer Shuts down by itself My computer likes to do a controlled shut down and reboot all by itself. I think I have found the problem but I cannot fix it. I have been on the phone with Microsoft for the past four days getting nowhere. They have had me reregister DLL files, clear my prefech temp files, install Update KB893803v2, and a lot of other things. Nothing has worked. Each time the computer shuts down I get the following information in my WindowsUpdate.log file: Misc =======Logging initialized (build: 7.0.6000.374, tz: -0400)===== Misc =Process:\??\C:WINDOWS\System32\winlogon.exe Misc =Module: C:\WINDOWS\System32\wuaueng.dll Shutdown FATAL:WUAutoUpdateAtShutdown failed, hr=8024A000 AU #####AU:Uninitializing Automatic Updates ##### Service ****** Service ** END ** Service: Service exit [Exit code = 0x240001) Service ****** I do not have automatic updates turned on but it seems to want to try to run and then the computer looses its mind. Any input on this situation. I have tried to get Microsoft to look at this log but they keep telling me it means nothing. I hope someone can think of an answer. Thank you all in advance. Look forward to some input. -- Karen Prentice |

| Re: Computer Shuts down by itself I will try your advice. I believe that I will find I have already disabled the update service. Just to make you happy and myself, NO, Microsoft has not told me to do this. I am still working with the people in India. I will let you know.
