I wonder, if there are any settings besides those which pop up in the box in
response to the command "Create Rule from Message". I have filled up all the
information and specified the actions required by O E but the spam doesn't
stop. Some spamsters even have the cheek to use my own username as Sender
with some fake e-mail address. Can't govt. agencies detect these spamsters
and the judiciary impose exemplary penalties on them?

From the reports in Press, one gets the impression that the governments have
tightened their controls on spamsters. Then how do these spamsters succeed
in sending millions of worthless messages which are deleted one by one by
the receivers? Do genuine marketing folks really have any faith in this
so-called web-promotion and advertising?

You need to channel wanted messages out from your inbox so that all that
is left is spam. My arrangements are described below.

All incoming expected mail is directed to a user created sub-folder of
Local Folder I have named AAInbox. If expected Mail has an attachment it
goes to ABSort, another sub-folder of Local Folder. Segregation of mail
with attachments is done as a protective measure to reduce the risk of
viral infection. All remaining mail stays in the Inbox but it could be
redirected to the Deleted Items folder. No system works perfectly. I
Shift+Del those that beat the system that I don't want.

My ISP is BT Yahoo and they offer a free Spamguard service. This sorts
mail between Mail and Trash. I check these boxes regularly and move any
put in the wrong box and empty the Trash folder. This means that little
unwanted mail is downloaded to Outlook Express. Many ISPs offer this
service.

Another protective measure is not to use your email address in public
forums. In your case if you are using the same email address for mail
and newsgroups as appears in the headers to your post you are inviting
spam, albeit not so much as you might get if you hadn't added words to
the address. If you reveal your email address the only way to stop spam
is to change your email address and keep the new one secret. My ISP
allows me a number of addresses so their is no cost to changing; only
the hassle of advising contacts of your new address.
