| IP Aliasing with dhcp Hello folks, I'm attempting to configure an XP machine on a lan and am having some difficulty with IP aliasing. The box is connected via a switch to a home network and uses dhcp to obtain an IP address from the cable modem. However, I need to give that nic a 192.168 address in addition to that assigned by dhcp for local communication over the lan. When using control panel/networking/local area connection/properties/tcpip/properties/advanced, it doesn't let me add another ip unless dhcp is disabled somewhere. Is there any other way to do this such as via a start batchfile or even the registry. I found what I believe to be the IP settings in the registry but I'm not sure how I'd add another IP in there. Any tips greatly appreciated. Shane |

| RE: IP Aliasing with dhcp You should post in a networking forum. Not sure what you mean by "a switch." Here's the easiest solution--buy a router and it will assign addresses to all the computers on your network. The cable modem plugs into the router and the computers plug into the router. Do not mess with the registry for this problem! It's just a matter of correctly configuring your network. Make sure you disable any Firewalls. You cannot assign 2 diff addresses to the same NIC. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...p/default.mspx "shane-dated-1162843187.91ee98@cm.nu" wrote: > Hello folks, > > I'm attempting to configure an XP machine on a lan and am having some > difficulty with IP aliasing. | Re: IP Aliasing with dhcp You may use Static OR Dynamic, NOT both. shane-dated-1162843187.91ee98@cm.nu wrote: > Hello folks, > > I'm attempting to configure an XP machine on a lan and am having some > difficulty with IP aliasing.
