A good, free program for this is ERUNT. It can be set as a scheduled task to run daily. The registry can be restored from the recovery console. If one regularly uses a registry cleaner the odds are good they will come to that day when it will not boot. Or if it boots, things are messed up. ERUNT http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/ http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-on...runt/erunt.txt Installing and Using ERUNT http://www.silentrunners.org/sr_eruntuse.html http://www.winxptutor.com/regback.htm -- Rock [ MVP User/Shell] |

It doesn't matter which version CD is used, since the product key is not entered to get into the recovery console. So you can just borrow one from someone. Personally I wouldn't have a system that didn't have a windows installation CD. You can always buy an OEM version. -- Rock [ MVP User/Shell] |

| Re: Seeking software for testing the registry If I had a second partition that was bootable, couldn't I find an old "compressed" registry on the unbootable partition then "extract" it then copy/paste it to the unbootable partition? __________________________________________________ _________ "Rock" wrote: > "b11_" <b11@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:4A085029-F6E8-457D-B41B-5A6D6566D471@microsoft.com... > > My Emachine does not come with the Recovery Console.
