Yes, absolutely.

No. You need to install them on both operating systems.

Anti Virus

I run a dual boot system on my laptop: WIN98 Ver1 on "C" and WINXP on "D".

I have AVG Anti Virus running in WINXP and have the Windows Firwall switched
on.
Do I need to install an Anti Virus and Firewall under WIN98 Ver1 as well?

Similarly if the Spybot and Adaware programs are installed in WINXP will
they also monitor the WIN98 Ver 1 drive?

Thanks in anticipation

tom

AVG will protect XP and monitor the files on the 98 partition while XP is
running. But when you boot into Windows 98 you are unprotected as you have
no AV and no firewall running under 98.

They will scan the 98 drive, but they can only scan the files. Most adware
also inserts items into the registry. Ad-aware and spybot will not be able
to scan the Windows 98 registry since those registry files will not be
loaded. To do a complete scan you would need to install these under Windows
98 and do the scan from there.

Yes. You will otherwise have no protection when you run Windows XP.

No, for proper protection while running Windows 98, you need to install them
there too.

Why would you think that a program not installed in an OS, which program is
not running because it's installed in another OS that isn't running, would
be protecting the currently running OS?
