it sounds like a hardware problem.

the flickering light indicates a wobbly connection
at the plugs or sockets from the wall to just inside
your laptop.

or it could possibly the wires/line became frayed/broken and
simply need to be spliced.

do you get the same
problem with no battery installed?

to help confirm or deny some
of your suspicions/curiosity

you can uninstall any updates

or you can also find a restore point
that you are comfortable with.


if the above didn't help,
see if you have that problem
in safe mode.

if the issue remains, then it is a hardware problem.
