i posted this earlier, but from the date on the previous posts it looks as
though there aren't too many under that group, so reposting here.
the beep is every couple of seconds when the computer is working have
suffered it for a couple of months and can stand it no more.

have pest patrol but have zone alarm, spy bot and adaware. i think it is zone
alarm but am unsure of how to - 'C:\Program files
and rename the cookiecrunch.wav to cookiecrunch.old wav (or make a new .wav
file of your own as a replacement).'

hi,
it is comong from the tower, i have run adware and now zone alarm is
running a sweep - so far no virus. it starts when the comuter first loads an
internet page and it only beeps with each new page, minimise the pages and
the beep stop but as time goes on beeps get closer together then it is every
2secs. continually whether pages up or not.

Sounds like perhaps a heat related BIOS alarm. Ask the computer vendor
tech support about the setting.

One thing it can be is an alarm set in the bios that will warn you if
your cpu is running too hot, or above the temps you have set in the
bios.

In general, the BIOS 'beeps' indicate possible hardware problems; since
you're not yet in Windows, it obviously can't alert you to problems with
dialogue boxes and so forth, so gives simple beeps from the internal system
speaker.

Various sequences of beeps indicate a particular problem e.g. three short
beeps might indicate the keyboard is not detected/unplugged, or two long
beeps indicate bad memory.

The user manual for your Motherboard would tell you what signals indicate
the various hardware issues that could arise.

To turn "off" the signal.....I don't know if you can. But you can probably
*unplug* the speaker.....or disable the internal speaker in the BIOS
settings.

If nothing else, it indicates a problem - as does any alarm - burglar alarm,
car alarm, fire alarm....whatever. I would try and trace and fix the
problem rather than ignore it.
