Weird DVD problem

I think this might be more appropriate to a different forum, if so a
pointer would be appreciated.

I have a laptop (ca. 2003, Pentium 4, Win/XP) with a DVD/recordable CD
drive combo.

The Drive plays DVD movies just fine. Just recently I received a DVD
with file content.

When I put this DVD into my drive, it is as if there is nothing in the
drive. I can place the DVD into the DVD drive of an older computer I
have and I can get the DVD to run and display its contents.

I can't even begin to figure out how to troubleshoot this problem. Any
hints?

Thanks

Does the drive read other data DVDs? If yes, then the problem was caused
by the way the DVD you received was created. Probably it was left open
instead of finalized.

The DVD does display in other computers.

I think (although I cannot swear to it) that I have successfully used
other data DVDs in the past.
