setup of drive letters. I wish to return to my old setup, found out "How to
do it" - Control panel/Admin..... but it's the warning path that keeps me
from doing it. "Environment variable". I looked at the explanation, 95% above
my comprehension. I guess they mean sophisticated programs with PCs
communicating to each other and ????? This is for a Home based PC, no games,
no pictures.

b) on e:\ are all my old programs. Do I have to reinstall them so that they
re-appear in "Add and Remove"

There was a recent, extensive thread in here on that same issue. Search for
it to see all the details. The drive letters were changed because there was
a zip drive or another hard drive that had an OS installed on it, present in
the system when you did this installation. The easiest thing is for you to
disconnect those other drives, and redo the install.

As to the second question. Yes, when the OS is reinstalled, most all apps
need to be reinstalled. That's one reason why there is not much value to
having apps on a different volume from the OS.

a) you are right.There was a Zip drive and external HD attached. I'll keep
this setup . I am the only one using this PC. I should have used "Search"
but forgot to do it. I did it now, the answer must have been there.

b:) I did not start reinstall my other applications except fort my printer.
I thought there was a way to "rescucitate" my other apllications.

Yep that will do it.

Sure, you can run just fine with the system/boot drive having a letter other
than C.

It's always a good idea to search for previous on topic posts. In this case
it just so happens there was an extensivie thread on this, that's why I
mentioned it.

Not really. Most apps write extensively to the registry and store files in
various locations, so with an OS reinstall, reinstall all apps from original
media.
