rebuild corrupted hard drive; lost XP disk

What do I do? My computer is corrupted by spyware. I've tried to clean it,
but I need to wipe it, reformat and rebuild. When I inventoried my
resources, I realized that the store that I bought the box from didn't give
me the XP Home disc and they are now out of business. Any suggestions about
how I can get past this without going out and buying a new OS? The machine
does work, although very, very slowly. Internet is slowly functional. Thanks.

In some cases, when the OEM has gone out of business, MS will help with
replacement. See this link:

Check here for advice in the Security Section http://aumha.net/
and here for tools to clean spyware http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

With time and effort you can likely get your system running well again. Once
you have the system running well you may wish to invest in a drive imaging
program like Acronis TrueImage www.acronis.com
