Replacement is the best option. Sorry, I can't see your machine so I can't tell you what make you have. Jim > many thanks for your assistants > Saeed |

| Re: DVD + RW wont read an CD's While Jim is probably correct about your laser being dead, to find out what make and model drive you have you can right click on My Computer. Left click Manage then Device Manager. On the right side of the window, click on the + to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. The make and model will appear. It may be cryptic information. Do a Google search for whatever information is listed and you will probably find out more information about the drive. You could also use Belarc Advisor (but it won't give any more information than what this will show.) www.belarc.com "Saeed" <Saeed@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:6A586E68-6E4C-47EC-897B-5033D7EFA422@microsoft.com... > Hi People can anyone help I need someone to assist me with finding out > what > make of DVD+RW i have as it wont read any Cd's i put in and i was hoping > if i > can get an update of the internet which might help > > many thanks for your assistants > Saeed |

| RE: DVD + RW wont read an CD's I have photos I am trying to burn on to a blank CD. When I do the box pops up saying "Windows cannot read from this disc. The disk might be corrupted or it could be using a fomat that is not compatable with Windows" I thought you do not need a CD burner with Windows XP SP2? -- Judy Schneider "Saeed" wrote: > Hi People can anyone help I need someone to assist me with finding out what > make of DVD+RW i have as it wont read any Cd's i put in and i was hoping if i > can get an update of the internet which might help > > many thanks for your assistants > Saeed |

| Re: DVD + RW wont read an CD's Judy, it is improper to do what you did by asking a different question in someone else's thread. It is called Hijacking. However, here are some web sites for information on how to use the CD burning feature of XP and you should have XP SP 2 installed. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279157 http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u..._august13.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u.../copytocd.mspx http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...ptember16.mspx If you purchased the CD RW drive in the computer, the manufacturer may have (and probably did) install another CD burning program and the installation of that program may have turned off the XP capability. | Re: DVD + RW wont read an CD's When I googled the drive model you specified, (it doesn't show on Lite-On's web site) it looks as if it is a standard sized DVD drive. You can purchase any replacement 5.25 inch standard DVD drive and it doesn't have to be a Lite-On product. Depending on where you live, you can purchase a drive at Sams, Best Buy, Costco, Wal-Mart, or in almost any electronics store that sells computers. It is a standard product. You can buy a DVD+/-R-RW Dual Layer, a DVD+/-R-RW Single layer drive or any other type. Whatever fits your burning needs. When you install the drive, make sure the jumper on the drive is set appropriately for Master/Slave (see what the drive you are replacing is set for using the label on the drive.) Also, you should replace the ribbon cable from the motherboard to the drive. Even though the cable probably is OK, whenever I replace any drive I also replace the cable. Care should be taken when replacing the cable on the motherboard. One cable should be included in the replacement drive.
