System restore, file property time stamps and daylight savings time

Hello. I created many files prior to when daylight savings time occured. I
also deleted this files prior to daylight savings time. About 3 weeks ago I
had to do a system restore in order to retrieve files and records for a
possible lawsuite. I did the restore around the end of May and had to restore
it back to February 22 (pre-daylight savings time.) The problem is, is that
now all of those files that were restored the time of the files created or
modified are now time stamped about an hour later than the original time. I
was able to tell due to times that I e-mailed certain files. For example, I
emailed a file at 10:28 a.m. and if you looked at the properties of the file
in their respective folders the actual times on the files are saying they
were created after they were sent in an e-mail. Does daylight savings time
effect time properties when a file is restored from a system restore. It
isn't just on one file, it is every file that was restored. All the files I
created after DLS are correct. Keep in find did the restore at the end of May
and I had to restore it back to February.

Thanks for any help,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,

For one, it's strange (but it happens) when SR recovers data files (I
take it they're data files, correct?)

Two, I'm really surprised when I hear that SR worked at all for someone.
It's usually the first thing I try if a client is having a particular
issue requiring it, and I can't recall one time when SR was working as
it was supposed to.

I guess if you think about it, your file(s) was/were created with a
certain time stamp and then were "transported" into another time zone.
So it would make sense that the time would shift to reflect the new time.

What do you mean by system restore? The system restore function in XP does
not monitor data files, so they would not be restored by doing a Windows XP
system restore. Do you mean you restored some sort of backup?

With respect to file times at a Daylight Savings Time change, when the time
changes file times for files on an NTFS drive are changed by one hour. So
if you compare a file time from before and after DST the times will be one
hour different. See this:

Time stamp changes with daylight savings
