| Calling an MVP Hello I need help from an MVP. If you know the solution then it's great. If not then at least please give me an address where to go for a solution and here is my problem. I use XP PRO and I use the MS PAINT very much. I had to format the computer, reinstall windows and the rest, but MSPAINT which is part of windows refuses to install properly. I went to ADD/REMOVE, deleted and re-installed MSPAINT but it went back on with the same problems. I repeated this experiment twice but it still goes on with the same problems. Where in the Microsoft system I can get help for MSPAINT? Please help , Thanks |

What is the exact problem you are experiencing with MSPAINT? Please be as specific as possible. If there are any error messages, post them in their entirety. Also, have you seen "How do I install / uninstall mspaint?" at: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000758.htm And just out of curiosity, why do you feel you needed to format your hard drive? Almost always, this is not necessary. And did you perform a clean installation of Windows XP Pro? Here is an excellent page with very detailed instructions: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html |

| Re: Calling an MVP You are in the right place but you have to give us more details. What is paint doing or not doing and be specific. If there are error notices, please provide them verbatim. As an added note, there are lots of knowledgeable folks posting here who are not MVPs so you really should not be excluding them by using the posting title calling for an MVP. It is much more effective to use a title that explains the help you need: MSPaint working incorrectly, for example. -- Regards Ron Badour MS MVP 1997 - 2007 "janet-m" <janet-m@rogers.com> wrote in message news:udf4D0UsHHA.4364@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > Hello > I need help from an MVP. | Re: Calling an MVP Sorry for the first empty reply. It simply run away from me. ------------------------------------------------------------ 1) I did a complete format as the computer was badly loaded with junk I couldn't delete, and viruses that Symantec couldn't control. 2) Then I did a clean install from the original disc with serial number and all. Fact that right after the installation Microsoft started to send patches my way after verifying the OS legitimacy. 3) No I didn't check with "How to install/uninstall paint" I didn't know about its existence. I will now. 4) No, I don't get any error messages. 5) But it will not let me change the size of the canvas. When you go: <image\attributes> you can change the size of the white background but now it will not accept change of the size and will remain at the default size which is very small. 6) I don't even know if there are more problems because if unable to change the size, I can't go on with loading pictures on it. 7) What is amazing to me is that this very same disc that loaded paint for me two years ago and both OS and Paint worked fine for the last two years now can't repeat a proper installation of Paint that is a sub program to Windows. 8) Other then that XP PRO work great as in day one of the computer. It is only the paint program as described above AND ABOVE ALL, MANY MANY THANKS TO ALL THE MVPs (Most valuable professionals) THAT VOLUNTEERED TO TAKE UP MY REQUEST FOR HELP. | Re: Calling an MVP Hello again I went to this recommended site: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000758.htm but I am ahead of them. I mentioned that I went to ADD/REMOVE and then to the window part and deleted the PAINT from there. I recycled the machine and checked if any part of Paint remain but it was all gone even the icons from the accessories section. On re-installation it asked me for the disc. I did, and it re-installed Paint again, After recycling the machine paint was there but with the same defect of canvas at default size and can't be changed. I repeated this process twice with the same disappointment. Again, XP PRO and all its parts work just fine. I even installed few other programs ( Quicken, Symantec, etc) that were there before the formatting and they all work fine except paint. | Re: Calling an MVP Hello, Janet. My replies are inline. > 1) I did a complete format as the computer was badly loaded with > junk I couldn't delete, and viruses that Symantec couldn't control. That was my point. Almost always, the junk *can* be deleted. It takes some effort, but it's almost always less work than a reinstallation of the operating system. Symantec, also, is arguably not the best antivirus program you can run. There are alternatives, all free: AVG http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/ avast! http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html AntiVir http://www.free-av.com/ In addition to keeping your PC free of viruses, you also need to keep it clear of spyware and adware. The following are also all free: Ad-Aware 2007 Free http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html A-Squared http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html CWShredder http://us.trendmicro.com/us/products...al/CWShredder/ You should also bookmark this Web page for more resources on dealing with malware: http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/...moving_Malware > 5) But it will not let me change the size of the canvas. Currently I'm on my 98SE machine, but it also has Paint. From the Help section, I found: Quote:
yours? You say it doesn't "accept change of the size." What exactly do you mean? If you change the default values to, say 1000 pixels by 600 pixels and click on the OK button, what happens? What happens when you drag the edges of the canvas? And what happens when you click on the Maximize button? Is your problem the canvas size or the window size? |

I think at this point it might be help if you described in as much detail as possible what you say is wrong with Paint. I know you explained earlier, but your explanation did not quite come across to me. From within Paint if you do a [Image] > [Attributes], it will allow you to change the default size. Unfortuantely it does not automatically resize the window. If you press the middle button on the upper right corner of the window, it will maximize the window and you will see that the size canvas is in actuality increased. Some programs will resize the window with such a command, others don't. I have never known Paint to resize the window (under XP) so I am not sure what you are saying the problem is. Ciao . . . | Re: Calling an MVP Hi Daave It too late to cry over an unnecessary formatting I did. But thanks for the advice. The links to sites you gave me are now all bookmarked. Thanks again. My present size of the white canvas in the paint window is : Width: 5.07' and Height: 4.72' in inches. Changing it to pixels or centimeters produce the equivalent size in different numbers. It allows me to delete those numbers but the writing space remain empty and will not accept input of different numbers (sizes) be it in pixels or inches or centimeters.. This is my real problem . You mention the View\View bitmap. This does work and it fills the scree but in the middle you get the same size canvas that is in the default one. Also it is the same stuck size, be it in the minimzed or the maximized formats. The problem is the canvas size not the window. You mention that you are on 98SE. I was on that OS until I moved to XP PRO but I still have the original disc of 98SE. How about deleting the PAINT I have now from XP and when I re-install it and the machine ask for a disk I'll give it the 98SE disc instead of the XP one. You think it will be a wise thing to do? This is where I'm not clear. If you place your cursor in the Height box, you should be able to delete the value of 5.07 (it sounds like you're able to do this). Then all you need to do is enter a new value, say 10 inches. But you're saying it "will not accept" it. What do you mean? Is it as if your keyboard isn't working? What *precisely* happens when you tap the "1" key followed by the "0" key while you're in the Height box (followed by clicking on the "OK" button)? |

| Re: Calling an MVP Dear Daave You found it. It was not even a PAINT problem, it was a keyboard problem and here it is: I use the set of digits on the right side of the KBD and the "Num lock" is always on. Fact that I used it for entering numbers on bills etc. but into the paint sizing page it wouldn't enter any numbers. It did it for 2 years but refuse to do so now. With your suggestion I tried the numbers 1 to 0 at the top of the KBD and they DID enter numbers into the sizing section of paint. Conclusion: Bad keyboard ? ah ah, I replaced it with a new KBD and got the same defect. The numbers in the right side bloc of the KBD can't access the paint program even in this new KBD so I have a new mystery now. But that doesn't bother me one bit because if I can enter numbers into the paint program no matter what set of numbers I use then I solved my problem. And I thank every body very much "Daave" <dcwashNOSPAM@myrealboxXYZ.invalid> wrote in message news:OvK2ScosHHA.1184@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > "janet-m" <janet-m@rogers.com> wrote in message > news:%23hEskpnsHHA.1164@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > >> My present size of the white canvas in the paint window is : Width: 5.07' >> and Height: 4.72' in inches. > > That's a little strange.
